How to set-up your Outlook Express
From your desktop, click on Outlook Express, then choose Accounts.
Select the Mail tab and then select your e-mail account, or add, for a new account. You will see the next screen as below, enter the name of the mail domain as shown below, (Example mail.mydomainname.com, or mail.aol.com), enter your User Info and your return e-mail address. (Note that the mail server name "bsitexas" and your email address with "bsitexas" are usually the same). Click Next
If you are setting up for our service, your entries would look like the ones below, if you are setting up for another service you may need to get there SMTP and POP3 data from your ISP. If we are your e-mail provider make sure that your SMTP and POP3 information does not contain a number, it should not be an IP. If it is an IP, it will not work for us. Change it to show MAIL.YOURDOMAIN.COM ("Yourdomain" = your e-mail domain). Enter your Account name and you password. You must check the box my server requires authentication. If this is not checked, your account will receive and not send messages. Then click Next.
The next tab, connection is used to force the modem to dial you internet service provider, (ISP), check the box is want this done automatically, don't check it if you are using a lan connection or cable or DSL. Click OK
The next two tabs, Security and Advanced are seldom used. If you ISP needs you set-up special settings, they will assist you in setting this up. You can now close this window and the Outlook Express. The next time you select Outlook Express it will use these settings to connect to your mail server, and retrieve and send you mail. The most common errors are typing errors, such as comma's instead of periods, and miss-spelled words or names. Check these carefully before assuming that something is wrong on the ISP's mail server. Click OK. |
